Meanwhile, the R-factor, which indicates how quickly the infection is spreading in the country, has also increased recently, an analysis by researchers at the Chennai Institute of Mathematical Sciences found. The R factor edged up to 0.88 at the end of June after being at its lowest value of 0.78 from mid-May to the end of last month, it showed. It comes amid the unlocking process by many states trying to restore some semblance of normalcy as the deadly second wave, which infected lakhs and killed thousands during its peak in April-May, shows signs of reflux.
